Joshua Clottey Keys to Beating Manny Pacquaio
by D.S. Williamson in Betus.com
Joshua Clottey’s trainer, Lenny DeJesus, believes that he doesn’t need to watch any tape in order to come up with a plan to beat Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao, the pound for pound best fighter in the world, will be watching tape, or at least his trainer Freddie Roach will, in order to come up with a plan to beat Joshua Clottey.
But Clottey’s trainer doesn’t believe that he needs to do what Ring Magazine’s 4 time trainer of the year does for every single one of his fighters. DeJesus, who is a locksmith when he isn’t training fighters, which is most of the time, recently stated that he “has the key to beating Manny Pacquiao” and that “he doesn’t need to watch any tapes.”

How Pacquiao (above left) and Clottey (above right) match up could be more telling than who’s the overall better fighter. Today, we’ll look at how they stack up physically, as well as how they stack up in the more mental aspects of boxing. First up: The physical.
TOO BAD THE FIGHT IS NOT TOMORROW
By Ronnie Nathanielsz in PhilBoxing.com
“Fighter of the Decade” and pound-for-pound superstar Manny Pacquiao is so eager to get on with his WBC title defense against former champion Joshua Clottey at the fabulous Dallas Cowboys $1.2 billion state-of-the-art stadium that adviser Michael Koncz says “too bad the fight is not tomorrow.”
Pacquiao and some 40,000 fight fans who are expected to kick-start Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ stadium into the mainstream of big-time boxing and what Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes will become the “Mecca of boxing in this centur will have to wait until Sunday, Manila Time, to get “The Event” underway.
Clottey says Pacquiao bout like a miracle
abs-cbnNEWS.com
MANILA, Philippines – Ghana’s Joshua “the Grand Master” Clottey thinks that things are going his way ever since he was chosen to fight Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao on March 13, even if he experienced a setback in his training camp.
“I never expected to be in such a huge fight like this, which is the biggest pay day of the year. It’s like a miracle, like something is being worked out. It’s like a miracle, something is coming, and I’m so happy,” Clottey told Lem Satterfield of Boxing FanHouse.

Pacquiao ‘too quick’ for Clottey
From Irishtimes.com
Boxing: Freddie Roach says Manny Pacquiao will become the first man to stop Joshua Clottey inside the distance on March 13th. The Pacman could have been preparing right now for a megafight against Floyd Mayweather Jr, but that fell through when the pair failed to agree on drug-testing procedures.
Instead the tough Ghanaian Clottey gets the chance to take on the reigning P4P king inside the gleaming Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Arum: “This fight [Pacquiao-Clottey] is going to be harder the Cotto fight”
By Dan Ambrose in Boxingnews24.com
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum thinks the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight is going to be a tougher fight than Pacquiao’s 12th round TKO win over Miguel Cotto last November. In an article at Philstar, Arum says “This fight is going to be harder than the Cotto fight. Why” Because Clottey is more durable than Cotto.” It’s unclear whether Arum really means this or is just saying this to drum up boxing fan interest in purchasing the fight on pay-per-view or buying tickets to watch it in the huge Dallas Cowboy Stadium.
“Clottey is bigger and stronger, but Manny is a much better boxers, a much better athlete,” Arum says. There’s no question that Pacquiao is the better fighter in this bout. The only question is whether Clottey can fight better than he has in the recent past and possibly pull off an upset. On paper, Clottey doesn’t have the slightest chance to beat Pacquiao.

Joshua Clottey: “I Will Wear Down Manny Pacquiao”
By Mark Vester
Former champion Joshua Clottey will try to wear down WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao on March 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Texas. Pacquiao’s stamina is one of his biggest advantages over opponents. Clottey has figured out a strategy to stop it. He put together a plan to make Pacquiao punch himself out.
“We all know Manny Pacquiao. When he comes, he starts throwing. I’m just ready. My body can take it. When he throws on me, I will block him and that will confuse him. He’ll throw 30, and I’ll throw four. The four will connect. The 30, I’ll block most. I will wear him down. For sure,” Clottey told Reuters.
Pacquiao vs Clottey Overshadowed by Mayweather vs Mosley?
By Steve Kim in Doghouse Boxing
It was perhaps a bit ironic that on Wednesday the media day for Manny Pacquiao took place at the Wild Card Boxing Club, followed by the Mayweather-Mosley press conference at LA Live on Thursday. Just my two cents, but judging by the buzz, I think the fight that takes place on May 1st is overshadowing the fight that takes palce next week at Cowboys Stadium.
I think the move to make the Mayweather-Mosley events open to the public was a very smart move. And let’s face, while Pacquiao-Clottey is a good fight, it isn’t the match-up on paper that Mayweather-Mosley is.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS MEANS RETIREMENT WILL WAIT FOR PACQUIAO
By Mike Juhas in Fighthype.com
When it comes to boxing promotions, people will do anything to make a buck. Faced with the prospect of the Mayweather-Mosley fight greatly outperforming Pacquiao-Clottey in the pay-per-view department, Team Pacquiao has resorted to a commonly used tactic to spike sales: threatening to retire after this fight. While we all know that Pacquiao is running for Congress in the Philippines this May, few people actually believe that he will walk away from the sport of boxing when there’s still work left to be done.
Even though many consider him to be the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Manny still needs to establish that he truly is the best welterweight, a fact that both Floyd Mayeather and Shane Mosley would disagree with. Not too mention, with a number of big money fights still available to be made, it’s hard to imagine that the Filipino superstar would walk away.
Texas: No ‘good cause’ for drug-testing Pacquiao, Clottey
From Latimesblogs.latimes.com
The well-chronicled argument between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. over drug testing was so heated and divisive it caused two money-loving athletes to walk away from a guarantee of $25 million each.
Mayweather’s camp implied there was something not so natural about Pacquiao’s steady move up in weight in recent years, with increased dominance in the ring, and Pacquiao grew so defensive about the jabs that he sued members of the Mayweather camp for defamation.
